Last Year's Ladies Class Minutes

Ladies’ Class Minutes September 7, 2001

Attending: Joyce, Betty, Carla, Lili, Becky, Sharon, Anita Betty gave a lesson on our goals as wives and mothers and how to attain them more perfectly: 1. Our goal is to train our children to be good citizens and above all good Christians. God has given us a plan. a. Phillippians 4:9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me put it into practice and the God of peace be with you. b. Romans 15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. 2. We want them to be happy. Happy children are disciplined children. a. We discussed how are children are often relived when they are punished for wrongdoing and that it clears the air. b. 1 Corinthians 11:32 When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world. 3. Don’t make excuses for your children and don’t allow them to. Teach them to work at making friends and living peaceable lives. a. Phillipians 2:14 Do everything without complaining or arguing. b. 1 Peter 4:9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. c. Hebrews 13:2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by doing so some people have entertained angels without knowing it. 4. Teach them to give and take and not want their way all the time. a. Phillipians 2:4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5. There is a time to be quiet they can wait to have their say. a. The interrupt rule that many of us have implemented, wherein a child puts their hand on your arm when they want to say something, has been pretty effective. b. Sharon talked about not allowing her children to go into why they are bickering or fighting in the heat of the moment. She tells them they can come back to her in one hour and tell her. c. Eccliastes 3:1-7 (a time for everything) 6. Husbands and wives, have your disagreements in private a. Ephesians 5:33 However, each one of you must also love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. b. 1 Peter 3:1-2 Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over by the behjavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. c. 1 Peter 3:7 Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. After Betty’s lesson, we discussed a date for the next garage sale. It is tentatively set for Friday, October 5 and Saturday, October 6 (if we get enough people to help). We want to remind everyone not to bring undergarments or socks and to have clothes sorted beforehand. It is tentatively set to be at David and Lili Hilburn’s or the Hansens’. They ask that large items not be brought until the night before. We also decided that we would study using a workbook on Timothy, Titus, and Philemon. The workbook was written by George DeHoff. Betty has ordered the books. We also discussed the Sunday school classes, with possible divisions being Cradle Roll, K-1, 3-5, 6-8, and High School.
