I Will Make You Fishers of Men
By Arley Turner
Matt 4:19 And He said unto them, Follow me and I will make you Fishers of men.
In Preparation for His public ministry Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness
to be tempted of the devil. After fasting for 40 days and nights Jesus was able to
resist all the temptations the devil placed before him and began to preach the
Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.
While Jesus was walking along the water of the sea of Galilee He met two brothers
who were fishermen, Andrew and Simon Peter. Walking a little farther he met two
other brothers, James and John. These men were all fishermen. Jesus requested the
men to follow him and He would make them fishers of men.
After selecting the rest of the Apostles Jesus commissioned them, Go into all the
world and preach the gospel. The commission was accomplished. In Col 1:23 we have
recorded that in 38 +/- years every creature under heaven had heard the Gospel of
Jesus Christ.
This was a successful fishing expedition. All the known world within 38 +/- years
had heard the good news.
The city of Patterson has a population of 12,300 +/-. Shall we cast our nets aside
and go fishing for men?
