Christians Under Attack

By Becky Long

Christians Under Attack Anyone who thinks that Christians are not under attack in this country needs only to pick up a newspaper to see that we are. Satan is hard at work in America.

We have mayors illegally issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. This despite the fact that the majority of Californians voted to define marriage as a union between two people of opposite sexes. Never mind that God defined marriage that way when he created it!

Genesis 2:20-24

20So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. 21And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23And Adam said:

"This is now bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man."

24Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

The very vocal minority is pushing to make same sex marriage acceptable. If you speak out against it, you will be labeled as an intolerant religious fanatic.

This week, the Supreme Court voted to let the words “under God” remain in the Pledge of Allegiance, but only because Michael Newdow had no legal right as a non-custodial parent to bring a lawsuit on behalf of his daughter, leaving it open for future argument. He is actively seeking someone else to represent so he can be “free from religion.”

Last week I read a story about a small congregation that was kicked out of a park because they were performing baptisms in the river. Originally, they were asked to leave because they might offend someone else. Then the city changed their story and said it was because they did not have a permit to assemble in the park. The story also stated that they might not be issued a permit if they were going to baptize people.

Our American Constitution says that the government cannot establish a religion. It does not say that there will be no symbols of any religion seen in any public place. Nowhere in it will you find the term “separation of church and state.” Groups like the ACLU have put this phrase into American consciousness in their supposed fight for the rights of Americans.

In fact, we have lost far more than we have gained. When a congregation is forced to stop baptizing people in a public river, it seems that the only people who have religious freedom are the atheists. When we cannot say “under God” because it might offend an atheist, it seems that only they have freedom of expression. (Well, atheists and the porn industry.)

I feel very blessed to have been born in America. I love this country and the Judeo-Christian values it was founded on. I get a lump in my throat when Old Glory goes by in a parade. However, I’m very discouraged to see the direction it is headed in. I’m not surprised though. Christ said it would be like this. He said that the world would hate us because it hated Him first.

John 15:18
18 "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.

He also said not to cling to this world because it won’t be here for eternity.

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I thank God that “I’m just a-passin’ through” here and that my true citizenship is in heaven. There we will worship God with all the saints in glory and no fear. Pray for our country, but look toward heaven.
